Partnership Between the Strong: Building the World’s Strongest Magnesium Alloy Production Base

Recently, a Clean Coal Gasification Contract has been successfully signed by KEDA (Anhui) Clean Energy Co., Ltd., commonly referred to as KEDA (Anhui) Clean Energy, and Anhui Baomei Light Alloy Co., Ltd., popularly known as Anhui Baomei. The contract includes the installation of two sets of Coal Gasification Systems, each rated at a production capacity of 60,000 Nm3/h. Upon the completion of the project, it will supply fuel gas for the metal magnesium smelting operation of Anhui Baomei, propelling its transformation into the largest Magnesium Alloy Production Base globally.
 
The project uses KEDA Clean Energy’s modular cascaded heat-recovery clean coal gasification technology. In 2015, it was recognized by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of People's Republic of China for its scientific and technological achievements. In 2017, it received the Second-Class Prize in the Anhui Provincial Science and Technology Award and obtained China’s Environmental Protection Product (CEPP) Certification. In 2019, it was acknowledged by China’s National Development and Reform Commission as one of the Top Ten Energy Efficiency Best Practices and Best Available Technologies Task Group (TOP TENs). In 2021, it was listed on the Recommended Industrial Energy Conservation Technology List by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of of People's Republic of China.
 
It is also worth mentioning that the modular cascade regenerative clean combustion coal gasification technology has been successfully implemented in another subsidiary of the RSM Group, Chaohu Yunhai Magnesium Industry Co., Ltd. The technology was put into production in October 2022. The current operation of the technology meets the design requirements and production demands, with a gas calorific value exceeding 1400 kcal/Nm³. The operational performance has been excellent, with all environmental indicators meeting the standards. The technology has received unanimous approval from the business owners.
 
 
Anhui Baomei Light Alloy Co., Ltd is located in Qingyang County, Chizhou City, Anhui Province. It is jointly invested and established by Baosteel Iron & Steel Co., Ltd, RSM Group, and Qing Yang Construction Investment Group. The total investment of the project is 11.2 billion yuan, covering an area of approximately 362 acres. The goal is to construct a plant capable of annual production of 300,000 tons of high-performance Magnesium-based light alloy, 150,000 tons of magnesium alloy die-casting components, 1,000,000 tons of flux, and 25,000,000 tons of aggregates and machine-made sand. Upon completion, Anhui Baomei Light Alloy Project will establish a complete magnesium industry chain, from ore mining to magnesium alloy production to further processing and applications. It will become the largest non-steel new materials project under China Baowu Group and the world's largest magnesium alloy production base.
 
 
As the flagship project of Qingyang's economic development, the construction of the Anhui Baomei Light Alloy project is progressing rapidly and will soon move to the production and commissioning phase. The coal gasification segment has also proceeded to designing, and site leveling is currently underway.
 
 
With one possessing leading low-pressure coal gasification technology, and the other with internationally advanced magnesium smelting technology, their collaboration will undoubtedly promote the green development of the magnesium industry and contribute to the establishment of the world's largest magnesium alloy production base.
