Historic Breakthrough! The World's First Ammonia-Hydrogen Zero-Carbon Combustion Kiln by DLT Technology Achieves Mass Production Application!

84 30 Sep 2024
Monalisa Group, in collaboration with Foshan Xianhu Laboratory, DLT Technology, Oceano Ceramics, and Anqing Technology, has jointly created a new pathway for zero-carbon manufacturing and green development in the ceramic industry, providing the sector with an intelligent and replicable "Zero-carbon Smart Manufacturing Solution"

On September 26, the world's first groundbreaking ammonia-hydrogen zero-carbon combustion kiln of DLT Technology commenced mass production application, officially entering operation at Monalisa Group.

This not only marks a pioneering first step for the building ceramic and building materials industries toward achieving the "Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality" goals but also represents a new milestone in the industrial application of carbon neutrality technologies within the World's building ceramic industry. This advancement holds significant importance for accelerating the green and low-carbon transformation of the sector in the world.

The upgraded firing kiln in this demonstration mass production line was developed by DLT Technology. It spans 150m and has an annual output of 1.5 million m2. By utilizing 100% pure ammonia as fuel, it reduces carbon dioxide emissions to zero. This achievement creates a truly "Zero-carbon Industrial Kiln"

The official launch of this demonstration mass production line utilizes 100% pure ammonia zero-carbon combustion technology. This not only validates the feasibility of applying ammonia-hydrogen fusion new energy technology in large-scale production and continuous industrial kilns, but also provides technical support and data accumulation for the promotion of ammonia-hydrogen fusion new energy technology in China.

Furthermore, it offers new technologies, standards, and demonstrations for carbon reduction and zero carbon in the building ceramic industry, driving the accelerated arrival of a zero-carbon era in industrial manufacturing.

As technology is gradually implemented across 160 ceramic slab (tile) production lines in Foshan, it is expected to directly reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 665,000 tons per year. If this technology is further adopted in high-temperature industries across Guangdong Province—including power plants, ceramics, building materials, steel, non-ferrous metals, and chemicals—utilizing a 10% heat value ammonia co-firing method could reduce carbon emissions by approximately 20 million tons per year. In the case of 100% pure ammonia combustion, carbon emissions could be diminished by around 200 million tons per year.

As the first thermal machinery enterprise to participate in the development of Foshan's "Demonstration Mass Production Line", DLT Technology has long focused on energy-saving and emission-reduction efforts in drying and kiln thermal machinery for the ceramics industry, actively contributing to the sector's low-carbon initiatives.

On December 27, 2021, DLT Technology, together with Foshan Xianhu Laboratory and Oceano Ceramics, established the "Advanced Zero Carbon Combustion Technology Joint Innovation R&D Center". On December 18, 2022, they produced the world's first "zero-carbon ceramic tile" using ammonia-hydrogen fuel. The project was assessed as achieving an overall technical standard at the international advanced level, with the pure ammonia combustion technology for ceramic roller kilns recognized as internationally leading.

In December 2023, the transformation of the mass production line commenced at Monalisa Group's Xiqiao production base, and 9 months later, ignition debugging was successfully conducted, leading to mass production.

As the "Ammonia-hydrogen Zero-carbon Combustion" technology successfully transitions from pilot applications to industrial demonstration line application, it not only leads a new technological revolution in the industry but also promotes carbon reduction, lower emissions, and even zero-carbon goals within the field of industrial kilns. This advancement will profoundly impact various dimensions, including economic, social, and environmental aspects, effectively helping to accelerate the green transformation of global economy.

Moving forward, the 5 collaborative entities—Monalisa Group, Foshan Xianhu Laboratory, DLT Technology, Oceano Ceramics, and Anqing Technology—will continue to work together to refine ammonia-hydrogen zero-carbon combustion technology and optimize process flows. Their efforts will contribute to the industry's transition to zero carbon, accumulating valuable experience and expanding the application of ammonia-hydrogen zero-carbon combustion technology into broader fields. This partnership aims to continuously enhance the industry's "Green Solution" and improve its "Value-Added" development, contributing wisdom and strength to the global response to climate change.
