KEDA Industrial Group: Empowering Development with Digitization, Leading Industry Upgrades through Continuous Innovation | High-Quality Development at the Forefront

loading... 19 Mar 2024
Stepping into the deep processing digital workshop of KEDA Industrial Group Co., Ltd (hereinafter referred to as "KEDA Industrial Group"), parts are seamlessly distributed from the intelligent warehouse by AGVs and assembled by workers with precision on ceramic polishing & squaring machinery, creating a dynamic yet organized production scene.

KEDA Industrial Group continuously advances the fusion of industry and technology, fostering new quality productive forces.

With robust core technological capabilities and a global footprint, ceramic polishing & squaring machinery manufactured in this deep processing workshop is exported to such countries as the United States, Brazil, India, Argentina, Turkey, and Italy, facilitating the transformation and upgrade of downstream manufacturing enterprises.

Order lead times have been reduced from 45 days to 25 days

As a typical discrete heavy machinery manufacturing enterprise, KEDA Industrial Group faces challenges such as numerous parts, complex products, long production cycles, and difficult-to-control manufacturing processes. Against the backdrop of the digital transformation in the manufacturing industry, KEDA Industrial Group is internally constructing flexible automated production lines, establishing unified information management platforms, implementing quantified quality management throughout the entire process, and optimizing the enterprise's production and manufacturing management model.

Externally, KEDA is leveraging digital technology to empower industry chain collaboration transformation, particularly focusing on the online connectivity of main ceramic machinery. This initiative allows KEDA to provide on-site data collection, real-time production monitoring, energy and output analysis, production control optimization, machinery failure warning, and other information services to ceramic production enterprises.

This strategic transformation enables KEDA to shift from being a mere machinery manufacturer to becoming a comprehensive solution provider in the industry.

Mr. Xudong SUI, Vice General Manager of KEDA Ceramic Machinery, explains that through the implementation of digital factory and digital workshop construction, as well as the introduction of digital design tools, both production efficiency and product quality have been enhanced.

Furthermore, improvements in the working environment and income of workers have been continuously achieved, leading to cost reduction and efficiency improvement. Comparing January 2024 to January 2022, achieving a monthly output value exceeding RMB 100 million required at least 200 workers in the past, whereas now, it only requires approximately 120 workers.

The digitization initiatives have enabled KEDA to unleash greater productivity, significantly improving delivery efficiency. In the past, the delivery cycle for a ceramic polishing & squaring production line was approximately 45 days. However, after digital transformation, the delivery cycle has been reduced to 25 days.

In January of this year, the output of KEDA Ceramic Machinery's deep processing workshop reached a historic peak, injecting vitality into the company's development.

The production workshop is bustling with activity, and preparations for the upcoming production operation are also in full swing at the Foshan KEDA Machinery Intelligent Manufacturing Base project site, located dozens of kilometers away in Lubao Town High-end Machinery Manufacturing Industrial Park, Sanshui District.

Leveraging 5G technology, the project aims to construct an industrial Internet infrastructure to establish a smart manufacturing platform for precision products and heavy machinery. The first phase of the project includes the construction of 4 production workshops, comprising 7 welding lines, 6 processing production lines, and 3 spraying lines, enabling the processing capacity of tens of thousands of tons of metal materials annually.

Upon completion, the project's capacity will be further enhanced to meet the production needs of the coming years, injecting powerful momentum into high-quality development.

Continual innovation leads the industry upgrade

At the city's high-quality development conference, it was emphasized that whether it's the "breakthrough from 0 to 1" or the "leap from 1 to 10", innovation always serves as the visible or invisible force, becoming the primary driving force for development.

In 1993, KEDA Industrial Group independently developed the first ceramic squaring & chamfering machine in China. In 1995, it pioneered the first ceramic polishing machine in China. By 1999, KEDA achieved success with the launch of the first large-tonnage press in China, the KD3200 fully automatic hydraulic brick press. In 2005, it introduced the first nano-polishing machine. In 2016, KEDA launched the first CNC intelligent squaring & chamfering line.

After over 30 years of innovative development, KEDA Industrial Group has accomplished the historic goals of "localizing ceramic machinery production" and becoming a leader in the global building materials machinery industry. KEDA has transitioned from a single machinery supplier to a provider of complete plant engineering & production project.

"From the successful development of the first China-made ceramic tile automatic hydraulic press in China by HLT in 1988 to KEDA Industrial Group's current position, commanding a global market share exceeding 70% in ceramic polishing & squaring machinery, I am profoundly struck by the impact of independent innovation," said Mr. Fei CAO, the R&D Director of KEDA Ceramic Machinery Forming Machinery Division and Foshan's inaugural recipient of the "Outstanding Engineer" award.

In recent years, with the rise of ceramic large slabs/sintered stones, downstream ceramic manufacturing enterprises have been producing products with increasingly larger dimensions, leading to the trend of size enlargement in traditional forming machinery.

Traditional ceramic presses face challenges due to limitations in molding methods, such as heavy machinery weight, difficulty in part processing, challenges in installation and transportation, and high machinery operating costs.

In terms of production, they encounter difficulties in producing thin tiles, high energy consumption, high noise levels, significant dust pollution, and long transition times between productions. Under the leadership of Mr. Fei CAO, the R&D team embarked on a journey to explore the utilization of roll forming technology to revolutionize the conventional flat pressing process.

Through innovative development, they introduced the Extenller series ceramic slab continuous roller compaction production line, bringing disruptive innovation to the Chinese ceramic tile production process, which had remained unchanged for over 30 years.

Compared to traditional ceramic hydraulic presses used in flat plate stamping, continuous roll forming, as an innovative forming technology, offers characteristics such as low energy consumption, low noise, low pollution, high efficiency, and highly flexible production. This innovation aids downstream ceramic enterprises in reducing costs and enhancing efficiency.

Mr. Fei CAO explained that traditional methods for producing 1.6×3.6 meter wide tile necessitate ceramic hydraulic presses with a capacity of over 30,000 tons, which weigh over 700 tons and consume approximately 400 kilowatts of power.

In contrast, the rolling process requires only a 46-ton roller press, reducing machinery weight by 93% and energy consumption by 80%. This results in a reduction of over 40% in customer operating costs.

Additionally, while traditional ceramic hydraulic presses require several hours to adjust the tile specifications by changing moulds, the newly developed roller press only needs settings adjusted on the screen, enabling specification changes within half an hour. This minimizes the impact on production pace, making it better suited to meet market demands for digitized flexible production and rapid responses.

Moving forward, KEDA Industrial Group will maintain its commitment to high-quality development, consistently driving technological innovation, adapting to change, overcoming obstacles, nurturing new productive capabilities, embracing digitization, and evolving into an intelligent enterprise. KEDA will offer intelligent products and services, shifting from a traditional manufacturing model to a service-oriented enterprise.
